Rimrocker in May

Got back from a fine time on the Rimrocker a couple weeks ago. Too much snow up on the divide to start at Montrose, so we unloaded the truck at Nucla. Three nights of camping from there to Moab. No other detours necessary, other than a couple miles of highway to bypass two snowmelt swollen river crossings.
We then spent a couple nights in Moab to people watch and reprovision - and take some showers.
On our way back to Nucla, we detoured around a pretty tedious trail section by jumping back on the route just outside the town of La Sal. Camped another three nights on the trail. Drove through Nucla and continued up the trail to the divide. Still closed due to snow, so we returned to Nucla and loaded up.
Truck ran great! Only issues were a broken cupholder and a floppy mirror. The regulator on our propane camp stove quit working the first night out of Moab - hole in the diaphram. No burning bans, so we made fires when we needed to heat something. Morning coffee tastes all the better when it takes an hour to make!
Beautiful scenery, challenging enough trail for a 50 year old vehicle pulling a 1000 pound trailer. Usually saw one or two other travelers daily. Pretty quiet route. A little muddy in spots that time of year, but nothing serious.
