Mojave Road Planning and campsite selection pondering

If you're expecting to get the prime spot at the top, Camp Phallus, that can be a crap shoot. We went in two years ago on a Sunday and just happened to drive in as two vehicles vacated. Got lucky. We did the whole trek in 3 days. We had planned to do 4 but a weather front was moving in with high...

    Lets go to Baja!

Ditto on the comment about Easter being busy. We have a place down in Punta Chivato and Semana Santa is a MAJOR beach holiday.

Kid Friendly Individual Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Okay, it just kills me that this section has remained empty for so long. So, here goes with the first post. This is a super easy, totally tasty, and fun campfire dessert where kids can make their own. Ingredients: Square piece of aluminum foil Can of Pineapple Rings Maraschino Cherries Brown...

Recommendation for mod shop in Silicon Valley?

Heard good things about Arabia's in Campbell back when I belonged to a jeep club. Never used them myself though.

    Mojave Road (CA/NV)

We came through in early April this year and the rock filled section was covered with maybe 8" of water. The water crossing east of there, at the railroad trestle was maybe a couple of feet deep(?). All depends on whether or not there's been any rain earlier in the season to make it's way down.

Trail Camp: The Shasta Shakedown (July 22-25)

Hey Chief Brody, or should I call you CB? (I know we're talking Ham, but, see what I did there?) I have a tech class license and I'm probably the most amateur amateur radio operator you will ever meet. I do have a couple of tips though. Check out repeaterbook.com and also download the...

    Mojave Road - April 2021

Day 3 Day three was up early and on the road. We had intended on camping a third night at the exit of Afton Canyon, but we’d heard that high winds were forecast. We drove through Soda Lake to the Travelers Monument. Soda Lake is a dry lakebed miles across. I don’t recall it raining at all in...

    Mojave Road - April 2021

Day 2 We took off Monday morning, back to the Road, and headed west again. This was a big day off the Road. We headed down to Hole in the Wall so that I could take LeeAnn on the Ring Trail. I’d done this hike many years ago with a bunch of Cub Scouts, but my wife had never been. The hike starts...

    Mojave Road - April 2021

Day 1 Back in early April, my wife LeeAnn and I headed south on a Saturday morning to Bullhead City, AZ. Our plan, to run the Mojave Road from east to west. We spent Saturday night visiting with LeeAnn’s uncle then hit the road early Sunday morning. We stopped to top off the tank and crossed...

    ***New Member Introductions***

Hello All, my name's Phill. My wife LeeAnn and I enjoy getting out into the backcountry away from the crowds. You may see us wading in a river, or sitting in a drift boat, with fly rod in hand. I drive a ZR2 that has been a little modified. If we're base camping, I drag a modified M101 CDN...
