Hello!

What is everyone using to import the .GPX or .KMZ for the the pre-made routes?

I'm using GAIA but is there any other app you're using? Or loading straight into your GPS in your vehicle?

Thanks!

Gaia pretty much anytime I'm out on the trail. We've been converting all of our GPX files to work with Gaia's native map icons as well. I'll use OnX occasionally, but it's typically for research on new routes. I'm not a big fan of their map layers, while Gaia has a map layer for every occasion.

Glad you said that. My subscription to Gaia just renewed today. Lol. Thanks for the info! FYI. Gaia gives First Responders/Military/Veterans half off.

Is Gaia still way more prefered than Onx offroad? I was about to get the very expensive Gaia subscription when i just noticed Onx is having a 1/2 price memorial day (2025) subscription deal, i am also interested in the new Onx dispersed camping layer.

It really comes down to a matter of preference. There are folks who prefer OnX, and other people who prefer Gaia. If you're on an iOS device, I do still have some promo codes for Goat Maps, which was developed by the original founders of Gaia.

Well i ended up trying Onx Offroad elite, just couldn't pass up the 70% off the elite version ($30). In case anyone wants to try the code memdayelite25

So far the Onx app seems ok, i like how Gaia shows the different icons on the GPX files but on the other hand i like how Onx has readable text to what each inco waypoint is without having to tap on it.

Gaia has been going downhill ever since Outside took the reins. Not only have they raised the price, they've deleted some of the most useful map layers because they're too cheap to pay the price to the vendor. ESRI satellite and NatGeo layers are now history. But I still like their app and use it regularly. Let's face it, the annual price for Gaia is pocket change compared to what you spend on a 6-day trip in the backcountry. Same goes for OnX and OTG.

You can toggle the waypoint text on/off within Gaia. Sounds like you had it toggled off. But since you're on OnX, no need to worry about that now ;)
