East Mojave Heritage Trail: Feb 13 - 17

Hey all,

It does look like we're going to get some rain on Thursday and possibly a few showers on Friday as well. I'm keeping an eye on the forecast, but it looks like anywhere from .25 - .5" in the Baker to Primm area. If we need to, we can modify our route but for the time being, we'll plan on sticking to the original route, starting at the beginning of segment 2 and working our way to segment 3.

I do bring my rain shell on every trip, but I'll be packing my rain pants since rain looks inevitable on Thursday.

I'll be pushing out of the Bay Area Wednesday morning after dropping my kid off at school. I'm looking at camping off of Rasor Road (Beacon Station) which is about 10 minutes east of Baker on the freeway, but about a 10 minute drive off the freeway to the better campsites. We usually stay in this vicinity: 35.12760, -116.15450

I will have Starlink, so can communicate location if I get there first. The goal will be to camp on the sand, to hopefully stay out of any potential mud.

OK, sounds good. I will also be leaving from the bay area, but probably not that early, but hopefully by noon. Depends what I get done tomorrow 😅

I'm planning on leaving northern LA area around 6pm, will be pulling in late or perhaps posting up somewhere along the way. Will update either way

My plan was to get out of work as early as possible tomorrow, around 4pm MST at the latest, and then head up there. If I did my time zone math correctly, that should put me there before 9 pm PST.

I haven't settled on a camp yet, but will be somewhere within 30 min of baker. Looking at Rasor Road or another location closer to town called Squat Hill. I'll have Starlink so I'll post my location up arriving to camp. I plan on leaving the Bay Area around 9am, so hoping to get to camp before 7pm.

Heading out! I'll post my coordinates upon reaching camp. Definitely going to look for higher ground with the rain rolling in.

I’m camped a couple of miles from Baker off of Kelbaker Road. Here’s my location;
35.2411259, -116.0669484

So when I did my fill up, turns out I put 52.79 gal in a 53 gal tank! Realistically, there was probably a gal or 2 left, since it depends on how much room I leave for fuel expansion in the tank. Then, about halfway home, I noticed that the central air system was pumping air into the tires nearly constantly. Went a few miles to a rest stop and found a bolt in the tire.
Thanks again Ben and nice to meet everyone. Hopefully see you guys out there.
Also, when you do your narrative Ben. Its an LMTV, Light medium tactical vehicle made by Stewart and Stevenson. 1000020418.jpg

I assume this is you Nick? Thanks for following me to the gas station. See my post to Ben for updates on fuel and my trip home

I presume you will plug the hole, or will you unmount the tire and patch from the inside?

Dang! I was pushing it to get to AZ for cheap gas but only ended up putting like 16g in my 17.5g tank - lol - Glad you were able to make it!

I'm still going through all my pics, but here's one of the rig from the first day:

On the way home I did 250 miles and the needle was at 1/2 tank under pretty close to ideal conditions. Down Tehachapi pass and pretty flat the rest of the way. So feasible to do up to 500 miles on a tank. I mostly kept my speed around 62mph. I know guys have gotten up to 600 miles, but they keep it at 55, which is really hard for me to do 😀

Thank you all for a really nice trip!
Here are a couple pictures, full album coming soon.
