Greetings,
The name here is Jeff and I live SoCal (OC/Corona). I enjoy getting out and exploring the mountains and the deserts for historical things like, old cabins, plane crashes, mines and ancient sites to name a few. I am a member of several off-road groups and try to get out at least once a month. I have had a well equipped Toyota FJ for 10 years that gets me where I want to go. I use a Yaesu FTM 400 radio for communications and a Samsung tablet with GIA for mapping. I love the information sharing that goes on here and I look forward to contributing with trip reports on my excursions.

Hi everyone,

My name is Alex, and I live in San Carlos with my wife, two teenage kids, and a high-energy pit mix dog. I've been camping and hiking for many years, and about three years ago, I was bitten by the Overlanding bug. I figured it was time to stop watching all the Youtube Overlanding content and actually get out there and try it. Since then, I've taken my 4Runner on many adventures all over CA and feel I've only scratched the surface of places to see. I just returned from an epic trip to Mojave and Anza Borrego.

I can't make the Lost Coast trip, but I hope to join upcoming adventures.

Hi all.
Mike here, living in Redwood City with my wife and three boys ranging from 4 to 18.
We explore in a Sprinter 4x4 high roof 144 diesel custom built for flexible adventure with 5 people traveling and sleeping. While not as trail capable as many of the overlanding rigs, we love the flexibility and ability to camp in all weather. And man, we've put her through some trails I wouldn't have thought something this big could go.
We found overlanding during the pandemic when we needed to travel Cali to Alabama and back over a month, with a 3 year old who would obviously lick everything in a plane, so we rented a van and made it an adventure. We loved it so much we got our own and go out, at least camping, nearly every other weekend. Did I mention I have two teenagers? Well they love it too but revolted and will only go out once a month... I'll take it!
Our favorite adventures have to the the Valley of the Gods in Utah and Lost Coast in California.
I'm hoping to do Death Valley and Joshua Tree this winter.

Matt from Monte Sereno Ca. My 2019 4Runner and I have about 80K and counting, we've covered a lot of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah and always up for a road-trip. Dream trips = Baja & Alaska so count me in if planning a trip.

Good Morning,
Dan from Monterey Ca. My wife and I and are two German Shepherds are new to overlanding but have been hardcore outdoor enthusiasts ranging from k9 SAR to Rock Climbing. We purchased an adventure van that we love so far, have only had it for 4 months. While I wish it could take us to more technical routes, it has done well in Big Sur, Lost Coast Trail ( lots of pinstriping ), and Tahoe BDT. Love the OTG, such a great resource and looking forward to learning more and meeting other folks and hopefully a few van owners.

Welcome Dee! Where are you based out of? Must be somewhere in the west with all of those pine trees :)

Home base is Bay Area. That photo is just one of the trip I did in lake Tahoe.

I wonder? Do you arrange group Overland trip?

Thanks.

We do! Occasionally we put together Trail Run events, with two upcoming in the next couple of months. Not sure how many we'll have in 2022, as we're discussing paid tours with a local rental outfitter here in NorCal.

Hello all,
I live in the Folsom area. I don't really have a 4x4, unless you consider a stock Jeep Liberty 4x4 an off-road vehicle. I do however ride a lot of the dirt roads up in the El Dorado and Tahoe National Forests on my Triumph Tiger motorcycle. I recently rode a portion of the California South Backcountry Discovery Route (Death Valley/Alabama Hills/Bishop). I don't have any trips planned for the rest of the year, although I would like to explore some of the El Dorado BDT that has been posted here and hopefully do the entire route soon.

Hello everyone, I just joined this group.

Earlier this year, after having a modified 2wd Mini RV, living in it at times and using it for remote camping for many years, I finally was able to get a decent four-wheel-drive. Since then, I have been in the process of parting out the mini RV.

I am really excited to have the 2003 Jeep grand Cherokee WJ which is now able to get me to more remote places I would like to go to that the 2wd mini RV even with the modified Locking Differential, A/T's and extra Leaf Springs, it was just not capable of going to places I wanted to go; further remote camping trips and Remote Area Sight-Seeing; IE Overlanding.

I am interested in being a member of this group because Overlanding involves going into even more remote areas than the basic semi-remote places in NF and BLM lands, etc. that I was able to get the mini RV to, (including USAL), I know know it is most certainly a good idea, if not a requirement to go with others on the remote 4 x 4 roads, IE: 'Trail'.

This group looks to me like a very good group and I hope to, within the next few months, go on at least one Overland Trail with people in this group.

I like going to almost anywhere in the Mojave Desert anytime it's not too hot and I can afford the trip and have the time. I try to time those Desert trips between mid-late Winter and Late Spring .

However, I did go into the Mojave national preserve, (where they say "no RVs" but I took my Mini RV and saw several little tiny Honda cars and the sort there at the campsite area, so I knew I would do better than those Honda cars through the sand to get there). That was around July 4, one year and it was 37° F and very windy at night where I was camping. It did not get over 58° F the whole time I was there. It was a great trip. The Joshua trees were in full-blown, I loved it. I want to do it again!

I would like to maybe visit parts of self death Valley area like one of the campsite above the charcoal kilns or Hunter Mountain this very late winter or late spring, (more likely), maybe sometime between February and May 2022.... ... I think if it's February, probably lower in the desert than those places. Even the Trona Pinnacles can get quite cold in February!

I do most of my own mechanic work when I have the tools and the know-how, (decades as a Shade-Tree Mechanic).
I don't rebuild engines, transmissions or differentials, but I can do most of the remove, install, and fixing of things that I have tools for.

Hello, my name is Ben and I generally go by sourdough when out and about adventuring. I'm not sour yet but at 70 my expiration date is close haha.
Anyway, I've been camping for 50+ years and enjoyed many different types of RV's also. Currently I'm back to car camping and when I get things settled, I'd love to join in on one of these overlanding trips listed on this forum. BTW, I just posted a thread about my little Jeep that I'm playing with...

Welcome! Do you still have that custom Ram-RV rig? That thing looks pretty bad@$$!! And you didn't tell us where you've based out of :)
Sourdough is the name of one of my favorite campsites right along the CA-OR border, on the North Fork of the Smith. Doesn't get much better than that :)

My name is Eric, I live in Santa Rosa, CA. As a former Recon Marine, I swore I would never "hike" or "camp" again. That all changed when I got my Jeep Gladiator last year. I built it out for rock climbing as well as overloading... 3.5" Metalcloak lift, 37" Nitto TG's, Metalcloak skid plate, rock rails, and fenders, ARB compressor and air lockers back & front, Hard Rock bumpers, winch, and an iKamper RTT. I enjoy Death Valley, Mojave, and Moab... but I really want to explore Baja!IMG_0088.jpegIMG_6796.jpegIMG_0422.jpeg
