Hi,
New member from Missouri. Found you via a link from Ozark Overland Adventures.

Did my first overland trip in 1997 in Australia. Spent a month traveling through the outback living in a 4d 4wd Ford Explorer. Since then have not done much, other than dream of more adventures like that one. Don't get me wrong, I am very active. Between flying, racing cars and raising two daughters, overlanding was not on the agenda until now.

Love your routes and trails, growing up in NorCal, many of your sites I have been to. Burney Falls, Modoc County, Siskiyou Mountains. It would be cool if someone did a route through Siskiyou County, between Humbug Mountain OHV and the Klamath River would be a pretty cool overland route, we used to run that in my Ford Escort while going to high school in Yreka. Also many trails in Trinity and Shasta counties that seem to be undocumented.

Just picked up a 2022 Jeep Gladiator Mojave, that we are quickly building into our overland rig.

Thank you for your work on this site, hope I can be an active contributor soon.

Hey Rick,

Welcome! Matt from OOA is a good dude and doing some great work with mapping adventures in the Southeast. We definitely want to expand our adventures in some of the lesser traveled areas of California, and beyond. I've got track plotted in Klamath NF that I'd like to get out to eventually, and then another one that runs most of the length of the Warner Mountains from CA into southern Oregon.

Hello everyone!

New member from Georgia and I'm new to overlanding. My wife and I have a Toyota Tacoma with a Smittybilt RTT and have been doing some local treks in North Georgia to get our feet wet. Planning a trip to the North Rim in October and will be using the North Rim Grand Traverse route. Looking forward to many more adventures as we near retirement!

Thank you for starting the site!

Running a Carli pintop setup on my Ram full ton as well. You'll have to give me some pointers on navigating a full size truck on the trail. ;) I'm still acclimating coming from a land cruiser!!
Thank you Ben and maybe we'll be able to meet up some time. We are not without dents n scratches, but it's what we built it for haha! Enjoy the acclimation process!

Hello all,
I live in the Folsom area. I don't really have a 4x4, unless you consider a stock Jeep Liberty 4x4 an off-road vehicle. I do however ride a lot of the dirt roads up in the El Dorado and Tahoe National Forests on my Triumph Tiger motorcycle. I recently rode a portion of the California South Backcountry Discovery Route (Death Valley/Alabama Hills/Bishop). I don't have any trips planned for the rest of the year, although I would like to explore some of the El Dorado BDT that has been posted here and hopefully do the entire route soon.

I was hoping to see someone doing these routes on two wheels. I need to figure out the trail ratings to see which I can ride and which will need the truck.

Hello! Looking forward to hitting several of the trails/routes!

My wife and I live in Sarasota, Florida. I lived in California, Oregon, and Colorado in my late teens and twenties. Not a lot of interesting overlanding in Florida! We get out west at least twice a year if not three times. Earlier this year we explored Death Valley and a bunch of interesting places on the way. Later this year we will be in the San Juan Mountains, Moab, The Maze District of Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef. We will probably explore a bit further but not sure where yet. Our travels can be any or all of roof top tent camping, pulling a largish teardrop, and staying in resorts. We overland, basecamp, and rock crawl. Though lately we seem to prefer overlanding but preferably with some more challenging sections available.

When not exploring somewhere we enjoy our small city and many family members nearby. I own and operate a rum distillery.

Our vehicle is a 2020 Jeep Gladiator. It is fully built for very difficult trails as well as overlanding.

Here are a few pics of our setup.

Nice Gladiator... my setup is very similar. Who makes the roof rack?

Very similar! I don't have the fenders that hold a beer bottle as well though... :ROFLMAO:

The rack over the cab is from Frontrunner. They make one for the Gladiator that can handle quite a bit of weight. The downside is you need to drill through your hardtop. I am very happy with it.

Hi all.
Mike here, living in Redwood City with my wife and three boys ranging from 4 to 18.
We explore in a Sprinter 4x4 high roof 144 diesel custom built for flexible adventure with 5 people traveling and sleeping. While not as trail capable as many of the overlanding rigs, we love the flexibility and ability to camp in all weather. And man, we've put her through some trails I wouldn't have thought something this big could go.
We found overlanding during the pandemic when we needed to travel Cali to Alabama and back over a month, with a 3 year old who would obviously lick everything in a plane, so we rented a van and made it an adventure. We loved it so much we got our own and go out, at least camping, nearly every other weekend. Did I mention I have two teenagers? Well they love it too but revolted and will only go out once a month... I'll take it!
Our favorite adventures have to the the Valley of the Gods in Utah and Lost Coast in California.
I'm hoping to do Death Valley and Joshua Tree this winter.
The high top Sprinter can go more places than one thinks. Just takes careful driving and knowing when to turn back.
Sometimes I think about downsizing to a Tacoma with a pop top camper but then I hop inside my Van and it’s so comfortable that I forget about another rig. We did the Continental Divide Trail last year along with 4 Jeeps, a Ranger with RTT, a Ford e350, an Amorak with AluCab and an 80 series Landy. Six weeks on the trail and we were the only ones who didn’t stay in a motel or need a repair.

Hello everyone,

I'm David and I live in Denton, TX with my wife and two sons. I'm an avid hiker but my wife doesn't enjoy it as much as I do due to her asthma and an old roller derby injury to her knee (she's a badass!). The next best option for us was overlanding. I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD 4x4 Off Road I've rigged up to get us started and we did our first 42 mile trail in Canyon Lands NP this summer. She loves it! Looking to do some trips in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas this winter with hopes of a longer Colorado trip next summer. Glad to have found this site through a recent Outside magazine article. Love the idea of this forum for helping others find and plan trips. Looking forward to helping expand the content.

Hey all! I’m Isaac and have enjoyed the outdoors my whole life. I live here in southern Idaho, and love the beauty it has to offer. I have recently started thinking about over landing and all its challenges and fun. So I was looking for a trail to get started somewhat close to home, and that’s how I found this community. Super stoked to get info on wheeling this area. I was born and raised here so I know many places but have never been on more than a day trip while in my rig. Speaking of my rig, I have a 1999 Isuzu Trooper with a 5 speed manual, it’s sitting on 33 in Geolander MTs and has a roof rack. Slowly building this to be my everything rig. Thanks for the add and let’s get dirty!BEE750F9-8E91-4EFD-8B45-618D3E9C0E39.jpeg

New to the group and for the most part Overlanding. Have done a lot of off-roading and camping but it's going to be great to combine both of them together. We are from North Louisiana on the Arkansas state line and have traveled all over Arkansas and stayed at several vacation locations and car events. We are heading back to Eureka Springs on the 1st of Aug for a little R and R and looking for a few trails to explore while we are there. If anyone has any susgestions jus let us know. Will will be taking the newly built Jeep so we would like to test it out.

Hi everyone, my name is Kevin and I'm in the Northern California / Central Valley area. I’ve been overlanding on and off since 2009 with my wife and our 3 daughters. We did a lot between 2009 and 2014 including Black Rock Desert, Oregon Discovery Route, Lost Coast, and 3 10-day Easter trips to Death Valley - with our trusty LR3’s and the Northern California Land Rover Club.

School and life in general have demanded different priorities for the last several years and we got away from overlanding. Last year I bought a 2021 Ford Ranger with the intent building a new overland rig and hitting the trails again.

Our middle daughter and I took the ranger out to the eastern sierras last fall for a father/daughter trip. Now while planning a new trip to the Lost Coast (on our way to a college tour of CalPoly Humboldt) I came across this group while looking to see what we may have missed on previous visits. And thanks to the recent Lost Coast post…I found a few new places to stop/camp!

Here’s a few pictures of our old and current setups:

Old setup was his & hers, Land Rover LR3's

Name is Rick,
Location Northern CA Bay Area
Rig is a 2019 Toyota Tacoma DCSB w/ Four Wheel Camper Swift.

My family and I will be exploring either the El dorado BDT area near highway 88, or most likely if smoke is bad the Lost Sierra 4x4 area.
Can't wait for an amazing trip.

edit: I noticed in the route and trail status forum section, there is no sub forum for route and trail status for the Lost Sierra 4x4 trail!

Hello everyone. Bill Hart from Burns, OR. I drive a 2019 Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon. I have explored a lot of southeastern Oregon and still have more to cover. I am attending the Black Rock adventure rout in August with the OTG crew. Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing new country.

Hi everyone!

My name is Alex and I live in the SF Bay Area. I drive a 2021 Nissan Titan Pro4x I got last august. I know that full size trucks are large for overlanding, but I also needed something to tow and for children seats. I bought my truck because it was priced well and has everything I needed for capability. I plan on slowly adding to the truck to make it easier to travel off-road(bed rack/awning/etc)
I used to camp alot as a kid, now I want to get my family into it, we’ve made one trip so far and it was a good test four my kids and my wife enjoyed it. I want to get more into the forest roads so it’sa little more secluded and see things that not everyone sees.
We’re going to Mendocino county on a mini trip at the end of the month. Staying a house with the dog, but I’d like to maybe explore some roads and be able to go back to the house we’re staying at. Anyone have any recommendations? 66B95EEA-991F-48BD-B203-B745489F71E5.jpeg

Hey @Perfect240z

Welcome to the OTG community. Mendocino is probably my favorite county in California. Where abouts are you staying-- near the coast or closer to Ukiah?

Out by the coast you can easily drive north pass westport out to Usal Beach, which is a 6mi dirt road. There's a couple of roads like Little Lake Road that also cut from the coast to hwy 20 in Jackson Demonstration forest. From the 101 corridor, you can explore Sherwood Rd from Willits which will take you all the way out to Fort Bragg. You can also take Low Gap Road from Ukiah out towards Comptche, which is mostly dirt. If you're out towards the 101 corridor, there's more stuff out that way but it gets hot this time of year.
