After my first visit to death valley in March of 2022, I started planning a return trip. I had hopes of doing the Racetrack and Lippencott Road. With the recent storms, there was extensive damage to the roads a few months ago. The Death Valley NP website showed those roads (racetrack and lippencott) in red on their map indicating they are closed. I looked again today, and now they are yellow. They are basically saying that 4WD is required and travel is not recommended. It's all pretty vague though. I'm currently traveling in a stock 2 door JL wrangler with an adventure trailer. It would be pretty disappointing to drive all the way from my home in Utah to find those roads impassible. However, I'm not naive, sometimes that's just how it goes and you may have to make an alternate plan. But I'd like to have a reasonable level of confidence that those roads are passible. I have plenty of 4wd experience, I've been driving Jeeps etc. for 50 years. If anyone has been there recently, or plans to go real soon, I'd love to hear how it went for you.
