Hey everyone, we are getting ready to hit the road August 22nd in our 4x4 Sprinter van. I’m planning on driving 395 starting in Truckee CA and heading south.
We would love any recommendations of must see and food/beer stops. I’m also learning to fly fish so any opportunities are welcome too.
TIA
Laura

I wouldn't recommend taking a Sprinter on the Eastern Sierra Timberline Trail, but there are some places out that way you can definitley explore. There are some great campsites on the Buttermilk Country Loop with huge boulders. The volcanic tablelands also features a number of really cool campsites, and then you have the ancient Bristlecones of the White Mountains. Definitely worth checking out, and you should be able to make it up or down Silver Canyon if you're feeling adventurous!

We'll be out that way next month :)

That sounds like an awesome trip! Definitely stop by Mountain Rambler Brewery in Bishop if you can—good beer and the food's solid too. When I was learning to fly fish, I had a blast at Hot Creek, near Mammoth. It’s a beautiful spot, and even as a beginner, I had some luck there. Enjoy the journey!

What luck ws that exactly? Tell us more. Would love to see some photos.

A great place to camp would be up Mazourka Canyon at Badger Flat. You won't want to venture beyond that, but if you show up during the week, there's a fantastic site with views of the eastern sierra.

These guys had an amazing view of the Sierra Crest!
