The Basics/ Things to Know
  • Bring your best self and be respectful to other campers. We're all here to have fun!
  • Tread lightly and leave no trace. Let's leave it better than we found it!
  • Driving under the influence will not be tolerated.
  • If you plan on target shooting, please stow all guns in a safe and secure (locked) location out of view from others while at camp. If you would like to target shoot, please set up at least 1000 yards from camp, following Los Padres National Forest guidelines.
Firewood: Propane fires only due to fire restrictions

Terrain: Typical trails are maintained dirt roads with some rockier parts. Due to the weather patterns during the winter, some roads may have deep ruts.

Vehicle Requirements:
  • Any AWD, 4x4 or Sprinter/Transit van with reasonable ground clearance.
  • Aftermarket off road tires (AT, MT, RT) and a full size spare
  • Aftermarket lift recommended, but not required
  • Small (under 15 feet long) Trailers are welcome but must have independent suspension and are designed for off-road.
Recommended Gear: Days can be warm, with cooler nights. Due to high temperatures during the day, please bring ample water or water filtering ability. You will need all your own camping and cooking gear.

Fuel: Given the uncertainty of road conditions, we are recommending everyone’s vehicle have a range of 300 miles or carry extra fuel.

Day 1
Mileage: 30-40
Camp: Bowman/Fordyce Lake Area
We'll depart from the meetup location and take Bowman Lake Rd to Bowman Lake. On the way to camp, we will take a 12 mile, round trip detour to Grouse Ridge Fire Lookout. Due to all camping in this area being “first come” we have picked multiple group campsites in this area. Once we find a suitable campsite, we will set up our base camp and enjoy the night.

Day 2
Mileage: 30-40
We will explore the east area of Bowman Lake including Fordyce Lake.
  • More route details to come.
Day 3
Mileage: 30-40
We will explore the northern portion of Bowman Lake.
  • More route details to come
Day 4
Mileage: 30-40
Fuel: Refuel in Truckee, Ca
Break camp and go home.
