Campsites Fees:
Since we'll be at a developed campsite, there are fees. Many of the sites at AW Way are quite big, and can fit 6-8+ vehicles comfortable. We'll likely end up moving most of the group to the large meadow in the center of the campground. We recommend bringing $20 cash for each day you intend to stay at camp, but chances are it'll be a lot less (sites are $30 for first vehicle, $10 for each additional car, and $5 per dog). So if you have 8 vehicles in a site (daily total cost $100), then it comes out to $100 / 8 = $12.50 per day.
>> Please bring small denomination bills!
Dates: Aug 22-25
OTG Crew will be arriving Thursday afternoon to secure our campsites (look for the big, blue Ram w/ camper!). If you can, arrive on Thursday to help us secure camps. We're trying to put the majority, if not all of the group in sites: 28, 29, 32, 33, 35, 36 and then if that fills up we can fill in the meadow in the middle of camp or even move onto sites 37-39.
Camp Location Update:
Even though fire crews are gaining some containment on the Boise Fire, we simply view it as too risky to keep the event at Shasta, as a single wind event can easily cause the fire to get out of control and spew unhealthy levels of smoke. With that in mind, we've made the decision to move locations-- but we've got a fantastic backup location!
AW Way County Park
35694 Mattole Road
Petrolia, CA 95558
Getting to Camp
We recommend taking Mattole Road from Highway 101 all the way to camp. This is a divided road for the duration of the way. If you're taking hwy 101 going north to reach the event, Google and Apple Maps is likely to direct you through a series of backroads beginning with Redway. Many of these roads are single lane roads through the mountains, that may not be suitable for full size vehicles, larger rigs (Sprinters) and vehicles towing trailers. The savings is minimal by way of going through Redway and Briceland (5-10 min max).
Cheap Gas/Fuel
The cheapest gas for folks coming from the south can be found at Coyote Valley Casino, about 10 minutes north of Ukiah.

Detour Around Honeydew Bridge
The old bridge across the Mattole River at Honeydew is being replaced (a real shame, this is a discovery point on the Lost Coast 4x4 Trail!). There is a detour that utilizes Burrel Road and a temporary bridge that connects to Mattole Road.
Off to the Lost Coast
The new location will be at AW Way County Park along the Mattole River on the Lost Coast (Humboldt County). Our new location has TONS of room, running water, flushing toilets, a huge field, and for most sites, it's an easy minute's walk to the river! There will be a number of daytime activity options as well, various trail run options, and some great hiking options as wells (hike to an abandoned light house, hike through the tallest forest on earth!).
Camp Facilities:
Running water, flushing toilets, even showers (quarters required). There's also a big paved loop around camp that's great for kids on bikes.
Where to Camp
If you can, arrive early on Thursday to help us secure camp. Look for the Big Blue Ram to inquire suggestions where to camp (we should be at camp by 2pm on Thurs). We're trying to put the majority, if not all of the group in sites: 28, 29, 32, 33, 35, 36 and then if that fills up we can fill in the meadow in the middle of camp or even move onto sites 37-39.
Campfires + Grills/BBQs
Campfires and grills/BBQ are all permitted at AW Way. Please bring firewood if you can!

You're welcome to bring your dogs as long as they get along with other dogs and people. Dogs must be leashed while at AW Way County Park.
4x4 / Off Road Trails
GPX File: https://bit.ly/4fNDJAF
Trail Runs happening on both Friday and Saturday. Plan to head out around 10am.
Prosper Ridge + Windy Point
Time + Mileage: 27 miles out-and-back. About 1.5-2 hours if you don't hike to the Light house.
Vehicle requirements: stock 4x4 or high clearance AWD (Sprinters not recommended)
The drive to Windy Point features some of most breathtake views of the Lost Coast looking north up to Cape Mendocino. Folks who drive to Windy point may also wish to continue their adventure by making the hike to the Punta Gorda abandoned lighthouse and elephant seal colony.
Truck-in-a-tree --> Be sure to visit the truck-in-a-tree on your drive back! There's a dirt pull out with enough room for 3-4 vehicles.
Saddle Mountain Road
Time + Mileage: 47 miles, 2.5 - 3 hours
Vehicle requirements: stock 4x4, AWD or Sprinter 4x4s
This loop takes you to the incredibly scenic Horse Ridge along Saddle Mountain Road that features impressive views of the King Range, and Pacific from 3,000' up.
This track can be extended to the town of Shelter Cove by taking Kings Peak Road east to the pavement, and then following the pavement downhill (west) to Shelter Cove.
Bear River Ridge + Mattole Road
Time + Mileage: 90 miles, 3 - 3.5 hours
Vehicle requirements: all vehicles welcome
This vast majority of this track is paved, but it features incredible views along the Coast. Bear River Ridge features around 5 miles of dirt (softroading)
Hikes
Big Trees Loop
1.5 miles, but can be extended to connecting trails
30 minute drive from camp to Humboldt Redwoods. The Big Trees loop goes through the heart of the Bull Creek Flat redwood forest. This is the largest contiguous stand of old growth redwoods left on earth, and it has the highest concentration of trees over 350' tall. The trails are relatively flat and easy to hike. You can easily extend the hike to several hours if you follow the trails that parallel Bull Creek.
Punta Gorda Abandoned Lighthouse + Elephant Seal Colony
2.75 miles out and back
You'll need to drive Prosper Ridge and Windy Point to reach the trail head (requires a 4x4 or high clearance AWD vehicle). Don't be dissuaded by the wind at Wind Point. Once you drop down to sea level, the wind downs down significantly. Once you drop down to sea level, the trail parallels the beach for the remaining 1 mile to the abandoned lighthouse. And yes, you can climb the stairs to lookout where the old lens was!
