Hello everyone, I just joined this group.
Earlier this year, after having a modified 2wd Mini RV, living in it at times and using it for remote camping for many years, I finally was able to get a decent four-wheel-drive. Since then, I have been in the process of parting out the mini RV.
I am really excited to have the 2003 Jeep grand Cherokee WJ which is now able to get me to more remote places I would like to go to that the 2wd mini RV even with the modified Locking Differential, A/T's and extra Leaf Springs, it was just not capable of going to places I wanted to go; further remote camping trips and Remote Area Sight-Seeing; IE Overlanding.
I am interested in being a member of this group because Overlanding involves going into even more remote areas than the basic semi-remote places in NF and BLM lands, etc. that I was able to get the mini RV to, (including USAL), I know know it is most certainly a good idea, if not a requirement to go with others on the remote 4 x 4 roads, IE: 'Trail'.
This group looks to me like a very good group and I hope to, within the next few months, go on at least one Overland Trail with people in this group.
I like going to almost anywhere in the Mojave Desert anytime it's not too hot and I can afford the trip and have the time. I try to time those Desert trips between mid-late Winter and Late Spring .
However, I did go into the Mojave national preserve, (where they say "no RVs" but I took my Mini RV and saw several little tiny Honda cars and the sort there at the campsite area, so I knew I would do better than those Honda cars through the sand to get there). That was around July 4, one year and it was 37° F and very windy at night where I was camping. It did not get over 58° F the whole time I was there. It was a great trip. The Joshua trees were in full-blown, I loved it. I want to do it again!
I would like to maybe visit parts of self death Valley area like one of the campsite above the charcoal kilns or Hunter Mountain this very late winter or late spring, (more likely), maybe sometime between February and May 2022.... ... I think if it's February, probably lower in the desert than those places. Even the Trona Pinnacles can get quite cold in February!
I do most of my own mechanic work when I have the tools and the know-how, (decades as a Shade-Tree Mechanic).
I don't rebuild engines, transmissions or differentials, but I can do most of the remove, install, and fixing of things that I have tools for.
